The City of Coquitlam just approved a new plan to invest in parks, recreation and culture over the next 15 years. The Parks, Recreation and Culture (PRC) Master Plan covers overarching policy and works alongside an implementation strategy which deals with tactics and costs.
Specific parts of the plan will need to be separately approved by the city before they are acted upon, and the plan as a whole will be reviewed every 5 years. Related the PRC Master Plan, plans to address tennis and pickleball facilities, seniors’ strategy, and youth strategy are all in the works.
The city has spent 5 years developing the plan, which takes into account an expected population increase of nearly 10,000 residents. In that time, the city assessed current facilities, services, and resources, looking at both their current usage and how they would continue to serve future needs.
