Skytrain Boosts New Developments in Port Moody

The opening of the Evergreen Line Skytrain extension has made Port Moody much more accessible for travel to and from the rest of Metro Vancouver, adding to the attractiveness of Port Moody real estate. Thanks to that, there has been a lot of new Port Moody developments turning old industrial sites into new residential communities.

There are 30 development applications being considered by the city, the vast majority of which are in Moody Centre, around the Skytrain station. If all of the planned Port Moody developments come to fruition, it could mean an increase of 15,000 to Port Moody’s population. That’s great for Port Moody’s council, which lost tax revenue as industry left the area.

One of these is the Coronation Park redevelopment which will bring high-rise residential and mixed-use towers to Ioco Road, Barnet Highway and Guildford Way. It will also add townhouses and apartments beside the Port Moody/Coquitlam border. These additions would increase the community’s population to 4,500.

Another proposed development is on the Andres Wines site, rezoning it for mixed use. One bid for the development includes 32-storey condo tower, a 21-storey condo tower, several mid-rise buildings and a hotel.

Also under consideration is a plan to redevelopment a 34-acre sawmill site on Port Moody’s waterfront, which would include 11 residential towers ranging from 10 to 38 storeys, as well as low-rise units and retail space. The Flavelle Oceanfront Development would add 3,300 homes to Port Moody.
