Canada Day in the Tri-Cities
Canada Day is almost here! We’ve highlighted some of the activities you and your family can enjoy locally!
Coquitlam
Coquitlam has a reputation for going BIG on Canada Day. They’ve always incorporated multi-culturalism in their Canada Day events; from ethnic and religious foods to music and performances. This year, the festivities will begin at 12 p.m. at Town Center Park.
WHAT TO EXPECT
- Local food trucks + Ethnic food from around the world
- “Adventure Park” with many activities, including a 25-foot wall to climb!
- Henna + Temporary Tattoos
- Learning activities for kids including Coquitlam History & Sustainable living
- A full day of live performances booked! Music from around the world
- End the night with the 10:30 p.m. Fireworks.
Port Moody
Port Moody has become known for it’s amazing Golden Spike Days Festival which ends with a BANG on Canada Day! This year, the festivities will begin at 11 a.m. and will be held at Rocky Point Park.
WHAT TO EXPECT
- 1:00 p.m. Canada Day Ceremony
- 1:30 p.m. Free cupcakes & juice!
- Pop-Up City Hall
- Giant Inflatable Slide
- Caricature Artists
- Community Collage Art Project
Port Coquitlam
Port Coquitlam is starting their Canada Day Celebrations EARLY this year starting with a pancake breakfast and fishing derby at Lion’s Park first thing in the morning – starting at 8 a.m.!
WHAT TO EXPECT
- 8-11:30 am: Local Lion’s Club will host a pancake breakfast ($5/adult, $3/child under 10) and a free fishing derby with prizes for children age 10 and under! (Registration at Lions Park.)
- 12:00 pm: “Opening Ceremonies” – National Anthem, flag-raising – Located at Castle Park.
- 12:30-5:00 pm: “Community Showcase” – Brad Rossington hosts local Artists: Mellado Dance Elite, TC School of Music, Hickelstock, choral groups and bhangra dancing!
- 12:30-5:00 pm: a variety of free children’s activity zone! Face painting, creative station, horsey bouncers, bouncy castle and more!
- 12:30-5:00 pm: “Community Marketplace” – explore a variety of artisan vendors and community and cultural displays!
- Noon to dusk – an impressive lineup of food vendors: Asian Fusion, Indian Food, Ice Cream, Smokies, Cotton Candy and more!
- 3:00-6:00 pm – Salmon Barbecue – Port Coquitlam Firefighters continue the annual tradition of serving up a complete salmon dinner for $10. The popular barbecue is usually a sell-out. All proceeds go to the BC Professional Fire Fighters Burn Fund. Hamburgers and hotdogs will also be available!
- 5:30-10 pm – Evening Entertainment – live music before the fireworks! Don’t forget to bring a blanket!
No matter where you choose to celebrate this Canada Day, it’s awesome that we can all call this great country Home. I’m so proud to be a Canadian, a Vancouverite, and a Port Moody resident! Hope you all have a happy, fun and safe Canada Day this year!
